We encourage every member at First Reformed to be a part of a small group bible study.
Adult Sunday School (9:30am–10:30am)
During the school year, we have a variety of Adult Sunday School classes that are taught by our elders and pastors. These classes cover a range of topics including biblical studies, theology, church history, and Christian living. A typical class is 12-weeks in length, but you are welcome to come at any point during the class. There is also time for discussion, coffee, and fellowship.
Options for the Fall 2016 quarter are:
Great Doctrines of the Faith
taught by Dale McLane, Scott Magnuson, Eric Matta, Jim Spitzel and Brent Horan
Meeting in the fellowship hall at 9:30, this class will be studying the great doctrines of our faith. Topics of discussion will be the doctrine of Scripture, the Trinity, redemption, the Sacraments, the last days, and many more. Please plan to join us as we explore these wonderful truths we confess.
History of Western Philosophy and Theology
taught by Rick Stiffler
A History of Western Philosophy and Theology, by John Frame, is a survey of 2500 years of Western thought from a Reformed perspective. It gives insight not only into the worldviews driving our culture, but also how philosophy has (often negatively) influenced Christianity, from Gnosticism of the first century to the emerging church of today. The first quarter of a year long study will cover: Philosophy and the Bible, Greek Philosophy, Early Christian Philosophy and Medieval Philosophy.
This class is taught by the Senior Pastor on an as needed basis and is for those who are interested in joining the church. We discuss the basics of the Christian faith, the central tenets of Reformed theology, and what it means to be a member of First Reformed.
Our church family is organized into four geographical regions or “parishes” that are designed to facilitate bible study, prayer, fellowship, and outreach. Each parish meets at least once or twice a month. Anyone is welcome to attend. Contact the church office for details about a parish gathering near you.
Men’s Bible Study
Following the pattern set in 2 Timothy 2:2 of men-training-men, the Men’s Bible Study meets on the second and fourth Saturday of each month at 8:30am at the church. Currently, the men are studying together The Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis.
Women’s Bible Study
Following the pattern set in Titus 2:3–5 of women-training-women, the Women’s Bible Study meets at two different times. A morning study is offered on the first and third Wednesday of every month at 9:30am (nursery provided), and an evening study is offered on the first and third Thursday of every month at 7:00pm. Both groups are currently studying The Gospel in the Ten Commandments by George Robertson & Mary Beth McGreevy.
