We encourage every member at First Reformed to be a part of a small group bible study.
Adult Sunday School (9:30am–10:30am)
During the school year, we have a variety of Adult Sunday School classes that are taught by our elders and pastors. These classes cover a range of topics including biblical studies, theology, church history, and Christian living. A typical class is 12-weeks in length, but you are welcome to come at any point during the class. There is also time for discussion, coffee, and fellowship.
Options for the Fall 2017 (beginning September 3) are:
taught by Brent Horan, Fellowship Hall
In 605 BC, Daniel is taken from his home in Judah and brought to the land of Babylon. While there, he, and those exiled with him, would be bombarded with the worldview contrary to Yahweh, their God. The book of Daniel is written to the people God living in a world that is opposed to them, and it demonstrates God’s sovereignty over the whole world through his destruction of rebellious world powers and the faithful deliverance of his covenant people. In our study, we will see beautiful prophecies of the coming of Christ’s Kingdom and be taught what it means to be faithful to Jesus in a world that is opposed to him and his people.
The God Who is There
taught by Rick Stiffler, Conference Room
Through Francis Schaeffer’s The God Who is There, we learn where the clashing ideas about God, science, history and art came from and where they are going. Originally written in 1968, the book continues to demonstrate how Christians can fearlessly confront the competing philosophies of the world.
This class is taught by the Senior Pastor on an as needed basis and is for those who are interested in joining the church. We discuss the basics of the Christian faith, the central tenets of Reformed theology, and what it means to be a member of First Reformed.
Our church family is organized into four geographical regions or “parishes” that are designed to facilitate bible study, prayer, fellowship, and outreach. Each parish meets at least once or twice a month. Anyone is welcome to attend. Contact the church office for details about a parish gathering near you.
Men’s Bible Study
Following the pattern set in 2 Timothy 2:2 of men-training-men, there are Men’s studies that take place periodically. Currently, there are different groups participating in a book study that meet weekly. Contact one of the pastors if you are interested in joining a book study.
Women’s Bible Study
Following the pattern set in Titus 2:3–5 of women-training-women, the Women’s Bible Study meets at two different times. A morning study is offered on the first and third Wednesday of every month at 9:30am (nursery provided), and an evening study is offered on the first and third Thursday of every month at 7:00pm. Both groups will study Psalms: Songs Along the Way by Kathleen Nielson beginning in October, 2017.
